General Forklift Certification Training

OSHA guidelines require that ALL operators of Powered Industrial Trucks, also known as forklifts, be trained, evaluated, and authorized by their employer. This training should be on the type of truck they will be operating at the facility. Training should consist of a formal training class, either with an in-person instructor or a computer-based training system (online).

Upon completion of classroom training, a hands-on site skills assessment is required, during which the employer confirms that the operator can safely operate the lift they will use. The evaluations must be performed by someone with the experience and knowledge to recognize hazards and verify the operator's practical skills on the lift they are operating.

If the operator moves facilities, changes the lift type they are operating, or has any incident, they must undergo a re-training process. Moving to a different lift type requires an update to classroom training and a new evaluation.

Forklift University provides both on-site training and computer-based training options. An online class can work well for companies with qualified people to perform the site evaluation. However, for those who wish to have an experienced trainer train at their facility, our trainers can come to your site and conduct both classroom sessions and evaluations, complying with OSHA guidelines.
