Forklift Safety in Texas

While traveling around Texas the last few years and doing my best to make sure that Texas forklift and aerial lift operators are safety trained and OSHA certified, I have seen and recorded some pretty scary things from people that are either not trained or have no regard for their safety or that of their co workers.

It never ceases to amaze me on how many types of businesses use forklifts and need forklift certification. As an instructor I have the opportunity to travel the country and teach forklift safety in some pretty amazing locations. Recently I was involved in forklift certification at the NFL Network, yes the on the air TV shows you watch during football season.

As it turns out, forklift are used to move TV production equipment on and off the set, they use them to setup the sets for the Superbowl each year and while most of the guys I worked with have behind the scenes jobs they all have to use the lift from time to time.

So I visited them at their studios in Culver City, Ca. and did a forklift training class with a group from the NFL Network.

As you can see by the pictures, we went through forklift driver evaluations just outside the set of the NFL Network. And then they let me go inside and put me on stage and even put up a graphic to make it look like I was broadcasting and talking about Adrian Peterson.

So if you are a driver in Texas and you own a car, do you know where your registration is printed and mailed from? 

Well the short answer is Xerox in Austin. Yes, Xerox the document company handles the printing of all motor vehicle registration forms, and with all that paper there is a big need for forklifts. Forklift University of Texas had the opportunity to train several new forklift operators at the facility the other day. As part of their operations they hanlde very large rolls of paper, boxes and boxes of envelopes, and all other types of paper products used in the printing operation. 

Operators had to handle not only a stand up reach forklift, but an electric pallet jack and a stand up 3 wheel lift that is more like a sit down forklfit than a stand up. The saturday forklift class was setup so that production would not slow down.
